Sharkey Equestrian was officially launched in the spring of 2016 by Christina Sharkey (now Christina Ellison) after spending her first several years as a professional as part of the teaching/training staff at Dancing Horse Farm. DHF (mydhf.com) is a large sporthorse facility in Lebanon, Ohio, owned and run by Grand Prix dressage rider Jennifer Truett, with whom Christina has trained extensively. Sharkey Equestrian mainly operates out of Christina's home in Morrow, Ohio, but has limited additional stalls at Stromatt Sporthorses (stromattsporthorses.com) in Lebanon, Ohio. Sharkey Equestrian enjoys a tight-knit clientele that enjoy riding together, always having fun and putting the horse first! The program additionally utilizes a unique teaching approach for dedicated and proven students using our 'project' program - a program that involves selected students in the procurement, training, showing, and eventual sale of our project horses - giving the students in our program the opportunity to experience several different types and training levels of horses. We employ the groundwork teachings of Suzy Fitzsimmons (fitzfarm4.com) and focus on finding the discipline best suited for the horse both mentally and physically.
Sharkey Equestrian continues to be run by Christina and her assistant, Allie Morua. Lessons, training, and sales assistance are available on a limited basis for students and horses of many disciplines and skill levels. We believe in keeping a strong sense of integrity and are happy to recommend other trainers or facilities if we feel your request is not in our skill set. Our areas of focus and expertise are eventing and dressage, with hunters and jumpers only on a local/regional level. We will attend rated hunter shows when the roster of sales or project horses requires it.
As a goal-oriented group both in and out of the show ring, we look forward to several things in 2021! We have up to 4 horses set to compete in the Retired Racehorse Project's Thoroughbred Makeover, presented by Thoroughbred Charities of America. We also have horses with their sights set on big goals in the USDF, USEA, and USHJA rings. Stay up to date on our project horses by following us on Instagram (@sharkeyequestrian) or click here to read a little about each one currently on our roster!
